UM-Morris 11, Crown 3

The first game picked up in the top of the third with the Cougars holding a 3-2 lead. The game was originally started on Wednesday but was halted due to rain. Crown tied the game in the top of the third, taking advantage of a leadoff double. The Cougars struck back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Cassie Sowada began the inning with a single and the Sam Hanson extended her hitting streak to 17 with a double to deep right. A pair of groundouts followed, but both were productive as the Cougars scored a run on each of them.

A four run fourth for the Cougars busted the game open. Claire Hamer and Alex Anderson each singled to start the rally. Molly Olson doubled, extending her hitting streak to 21, driving them both in. Jordan Iverson picked up a two run RBI single to right field and the Cougars built a 9-3 lead.

The Cougars scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to ice the game, giving UMM the 11-3 win.

UM-Morris 5, Crown 4

Both Crown and Minnesota Morris scored twice in the first inning of game number two. The Cougars scored both of their runs thanks to the help of an error.

For the next three innings, the starting pitchers took over and held their opponent off the board. Crown’s starter worked out of danger in the second and third but did not surrender a run. Olson hit a double in the third inning, extending her hitting streak to 22 games for UMM.

Mackenzie Weatherly, the Cougars starter, allowed just one hit in the middle innings to keep Crown from scoring. The closest they came was in the third inning when a runner reached third but was caught off the base and cut down trying to take home.

The Storm scored in the fifth, pushing across two runs thanks to a two out, two run single up the middle. Minnesota Morris countered once again, scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning.

The first run scored on a bunt from Kristy Hoge with Gina Downie on third. Downie slid under the tag to pull Morris within one. Hoge then scored on a triple off the bat of Hanson, as she extended her hitting streak to18 in her final at bat of the game. Hamer put UMM in the lead with a two out single to the hole at short, beating out the throw easily.

Weatherly finished out the game in the circle, working around a fielding error in the sixth and a one out single in the seventh.

The Cougars wrap up the regular season tomorrow with a doubleheader in Mankato taking on Bethany Lutheran.
