Talking it over -- 11-4-10

I am so glad the elections are over. Every two years I go through this waiting process. Waiting for Election Day to pass so that certain things can return to normal. We seem to be surrounded by politics, politicians, campaigns, polls, debates, propaganda and advertising. Some of this would be fine, but a lot of it tends to be negative, untrue and even down-right dirty.

That is the part I am tired of. The nasty smear campaigns. The negative imagines portrayed about opponents and even bad things dug up from years and years ago, not only about the candidate but sometimes even about their families.

I am sick of the repetitive television ads. Tired of the lines and lines of signs along the highway and have had enough of the news coverage of debates and negative campaigns. I really wish the candidates would stick to the issues instead of trying to find the faults of their opponents.

But that would mean they have to actually make a stand on the issues and be ready to stick to it if elected. I have found this to be one of the most frustrating parts of politics. You select a candidate based on their platform only to be disappointed by their actions when serving.

I have to add that there are those candidates who stick to the issues, listen to voters and follow through with their promises. Finding those politicians during elections is a difficult process when there is so much other stuff going on. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut feelings.

It is finally over for another two years even though we know the campaigning will begin much sooner. For now it will just be a relief to hear about other things on the news, read something other than political rhetoric and maybe even see the countryside blocked off right now by political signs. It is time to sit back and see what our elected officials will do and if they keep their promises.
