Talking it over: Fall comes after fair

I hate to see the fair come to an end. Not just because I won't get to eat all the great fair food every day or see friends I haven't seen for awhile, but because it seems that the fair marks the end of summer and start of fall.

Fall does bring a little relief from the heat we have had a lot of this year but also brings the promise of much colder temperatures. We all know what comes after fall.

Fall is really a beautiful time of year so I shouldn't be regretting its arrival. I love the warm days and cool nights. The beautiful fall colors and even the sounds of geese flying south for the winter. The sky is often clear and blue and the sunsets are incredible.

It is also a busy time of year. Harvest is taking place, not just in the fields but in the gardens and flower beds. We are preparing homes and other buildings for cold weather and attending the many activities that take place in the fall. There are also all the wonderful fall suppers sponsored by churches and organizations. I think what makes them so great is the fresh produce and meat used in their preparation.

Time goes on so we can't hold on to summer forever. I guess fall is a good way to prepare us for winter. After completing all our fall projects, we are almost ready to relax a bit in winter. I just like to hold on to summer for as long as I can.
