Talking it over -- Hancock Record 7-30-09
Over the last few weeks we have been working on our annual Business, Service and Community Directory. It is a great section that is geared toward letting new residents and 'old' residents know what we have in the way of businesses and services in this area. Just by looking through this valuable section we can quickly learn that we have a lot to be thankful for and proud of.
We have many wonderful businesses in Hancock and the surrounding area. These businesses provide the goods and services we need to conduct our daily lives. Many of them also provide jobs and stability for our families. Pretty much all our needs can be addressed by just a short drive or phone call.
Since time began, businesses have started up and businesses have closed for a wide variety of reasons. The "whys" include retirement, mismanagement, economy changes, inability to compete, and many other reasons. It's a trend that will continue for eternity.
A positive attitude is important not only in business but in a community. Attitude is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than money, than failures, than successes, than what other people think, say or do. It is more important than appearances or skill.
Attitude can make or break a business, church, home, friendship or community. The remarkable thing is that we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change the past but we can change how we react to it. We can look at challenges as opportunities and keep a positive attitude about our lives and our community.
Before we know it, that positive attitude could turn into potential. It could result in attracting new businesses, new people and expansion of our current ones. We are in charge of our own attitude and our own future. Sometimes we just need an attitude adjustment.
