Talking it over -- Hancock Record 8-20-09

Another Stevens County Fair is over and while I am totally exhausted, I am also thrilled with the results from the weekend. I want to thank everyone who took the time to congratulate me on my 'big' cabbages and I really don't have any secret method of raising them to their over 30 lb. size. It was just one of the those years, combined with a good choice of starter plants, a bit of fertilizer and some tender loving care.

Every building that I visited and each judging that I sat through convinced me that we have some pretty good projects and exhibitors in this county. Each and every exhibit was top of the line and it was so much fun to look at the hard work of everyone who entered tiems. Once again the buildings were filled with great entries in virtually every category you can think of. Even the judges who shared their opinions thought that Stevens County ranks among the best.

I have to add another favorite to my fair experiences and that was watching the faces of my grandchildren as they enjoyed the rides on the midway. It was priceless to see the excitement and joy they got from each new ride. I even spent a fair amount of time going around on the Merry-go-round and enjoyed one ride on the Ferris Wheel.

All-in-all, even though it was very hot on Friday and a little wet on Saturday, the weekend was wonderful. There was a lot of great food, and I think I tried each of them. Many wonderful exhibits to look at, rides to go on and shows to see. However, as I get older there is one more thing that I really enjoy at the fair. That is simply finding a bench, resting my weary bones and talking to people as they walk by. It is a great way to catch up with those you don't see too often.
