Talking it Over: Ready for anything
Quite often we are asked a simple question: Are you ready? It can refer to just about anything in life, an excursion out of the home, something to be done at work, preparing for the day or even to eat, play, travel or work. There are so many things in life that we need to be ready for. I just wonder how we can ever be totally ready for everything.
There are some big things in life to be prepared for. A person always seems to be preparing for the future. Going to school, securing a job, putting money away in savings and even purchasing a home. Even as each of those things are achieved, they also need to be nurtured to keep them secure for years to come. We need to continue to learn, work hard at our jobs, keep building up those retirement funds and do maintenance work on our homes.
Relationships also need us to be ready for the unexpected. You never know when you will meet the person you will spend the rest of your life with. Children are a responsibility we need to be prepared for. We should always be ready to add new relationships such as friends or new family members. We should also be ready for a relationship to end due to death or other situations.
We may try our best to stay healthy but in some circumstances, that may not be enough. We should be ready to deal with any type of health challenge life may deal us. Be prepared for unexpected illnesses, hospital stays or accidents that could mean a lifestyle change.
One of the things we are always preparing for is our final days. We take out life insurance, plan for retirement and prepare a will in the event of our death. However, preparing our minds for that event is another issue. This preparation is the most difficult to face.
It is a common belief that we need to always be ready. You never know when a life changing event will take place. We may think we are ready for anything, but in reality, we simply can't be prepared for the unexpected. Life is just too unpredictable which also makes it interesting. If we were ready for anything and everything, we would not have any new challenges to face and life would be way too predictable.
