I was just trying to come up with something to write for my column this week, when I received an email from my sister Sharon. She described a visit to the cemetery over the weekend and I thought it was something worth sharing. She was accompanied by her son Scott, his wife Amy, and their two children, Jacob and Kaylee, ages 12 and 9.

"We stopped at the cemetery Sunday on our way back from the lake. We visited Mom and Dad's graves and then went to walk over to Grandma and Grandpa and Marv. We were just kind of meandering along but Jacob stayed back and was stopping several places. We finally realized that he was stopping at all of the veteran's graves and just standing there (they all had flags on them). Pretty soon he was kneeling by the foot stones like Dad has, putting his hand on the stone and praying for the veterans. It brought tears to my eyes to think that a 12 year old respects our veterans to that extent. He was not prompted by any of us and was doing this all on his own. I wish I would have had my camera with me but none of us did. He has such a soft heart."

What a wonderful honor to realize that our children are watching, listening and appreciating the sacrifices made by so many.
