He is hospitalized at an unknown burn center in Minneapolis. His condition is not known, although the Hubbard County Sheriff's Department says he "is improving."

Hubbard County Sheriff Frank Homer said the accident, around 10 a.m., occurred in White Oak Township. The boy apparently dashed out into the driveway from behind a tree.

Homer said the girl, driving a 1999 Subaru Forester, struck the boy and the vehicle rolled on top of him.

"The tires weren't on him or anything but the muffler and the catalytic converter were hot so when she was on top of him it made contact with his skin."

The boy suffered severe burns to his arm and leg, the sheriff said. He also has possible internal injuries.

The home is located southwest of Akeley.

"As the female was trying to stop the vehicle, she struck the male causing possible internal injuries, along with severe burns to his arm and leg," Homer's news release said.

The boy was flown to Innovis Medical Center in Fargo and later airlifted to Minneapolis.

Homer said the accident was not alcohol-related.

"It's just one of those very unfortunate things," he said.
