Tennis season is in full swing
The Morris Area High School girls' tennis team is well into the 2009 season having already participated in four matches and a triangular.
This year the Tigers have experience on their side. The team roster has six seniors, including co-captains Tabby Sanderson and Bekah Larsen. The other four seniors are Laura Lou Delehanty, Krystal Heily, Elizabeth Harrison, and Pam Sax.
Another four juniors also give the team an advantage. They are Kelsey Schreifels, Jenny Hennen, Brittany Harrison, and Rory Anderson.
There are four sophomores as well. They are Kaitlin VanHorn, Marlee Morton, Krista Matthews-Saugstad, and Renae Mullins.
The four freshmen are Megan Wagner, Darcey Aronson, Shelbey Marthaler, and Rachel Gray.
Five eighth graders, Melanie VanHorn, Kjersa Anderson, Carly Gullickson, Michaela Jarvis, Kendra Buro, are on the team, along with a single seventh grader, Kindra Cannon.
Coach Jim Gillis said he would welcome any junior high players who would like to give tennis a try.
Gillis said the team is working on consistency in practices.
"We are getting more consistent and are playing longer points," he said.
His goal for the season is to get better every day and see improvements by the end of the season.
With only three home matches remaining in the season, the Tigers are setting their sites on a seeding in the top half of the section.
Gillis expects Sauk Centre to be the toughest team in the section, while Benson remains strong in the West Central Conference South.
