Craig Murphy, Ron Staples and Donnie Wohlers are challengers seeking seats on the Stevens County Board of Commissioners.

Staples filed July 11 and Murphy and Wohlers filed Monday.

They join incumbents Larry Sayre and Paul Watzke in this fall's campaign. The filing period for county offices ended Tuesday.

Murphy and Staples will contend for the District 3 board spot of Neal Hofland, who announced he will not seek reelection.

Wohlers will challenge Sayre for the District 4 seat. Watzke is running unopposed for the District 1 seat.

Dave Holman also filed in the county to challenge for the District 11A state House of Representatives seat currently held by Republican incumbent Torrey Westrom. Bruce Campbell, of Alexandria, has received the DFL party endorsement to challenge Westrom.

Don Huntley, Dave Lonergan and Mary Ann Scharf filed for three seats open on the Stevens County Soil and Water Conservation District board.

Huntley is seeking the District 4 seat, Lonergan is running for the District 1 seat, and Scharf is running for the District 5 spot.

The Morris Area School Board filing dates are Aug. 26 through Sept. 9. The seats of Laura Carrington, Brent Fuhrman, John Luetmer and Mike Schmidgall are up for election this year.

Morris City Council filing dates also are Aug. 26 to Sept. 9.

The council seats of Matt Carrington and Bill Storck are up for election. Carrington is serving out the council term of Sheldon Giese, who was elected mayor in 2006.

The general election is Nov. 4.
