NEW ORGANIZATION AT MAHS
On Dec. 21, the Morris Police Department, along with the Minnesota State Patrol, will be showing a video "Young Forever" to the 9-12th grade students in the theater. This video shows photographs of accidents where teens have died along with testimonials from people affected. This video uses graphic pictures to show the reality of what could happen. School Resource Officer Anita Liebl and her colleagues have been quite busy recently beefing up enforcement of safe driving practices by our students here at MAHS. They have been keeping track of the percentage of students wearing seatbelts, number of student's texting or using their cell phones, and those who are not driving attentively.
Anita has been with the Morris Police Department for about 12 years and has been the School Resource Officer at MAHS for eight years. There are a lot of things Anita does around the school that are very helpful to all students. For example, Anita organizes the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program with the 5th grade students in the elementary. She has also worked with the 1st and 2nd grade students on Safety Posters. These posters focus on phone safety, bike safety, and what to do when a stranger approaches you. At the present time, Anita is working on putting together winter survival kits with the 3rd graders. At the high school, Anita has been working with the 9th grade Drivers Education class. During class time, Anita has had the students experience the effects alcohol has on the body by having the students wear "Fatal Vision Goggles". These goggles mimic the effects of the body with a .10 blood alcohol level. Keep up the good work Anita.
It is that time of the year again! Registration for next school year is upon us. In January, students will be selecting courses for next year. Students currently in grades 8 through 11 will bring home a Registration Guide and forms to complete. These Registration Guides will contain some new and modified courses (for example: College in the School courses), so please read through them carefully! From the student choices a master schedule will be developed and a class schedule for each student will be automatically created for the 2011-2012 school year. If you have any questions during this process, please call the school office; the counselor, principal, and teachers will be happy to answer them.
