Congratulations to Sydney Beyer

Sydney Beyer has put Morris Area High School on the map for Business Professionals of America (BPA). Sydney has won the 2011 Ambassador of the Year award. Sydney is the only student in the United States that will receive this esteemed honor. She will be presented the award at the opening ceremony of the National BPA convention on the lawn of the Washington Monument. She has been asked to give an acceptance speech at a special honors banquet while at the convention. To earn an "ambassador" award, students must reach 70 points in each of the seven torch categories. Sydney had the most points of all the kids in the nation, hence, the "Ambassador of the Year" award. Congratulations once again to Sydney.

Attendance Reminder

In the spring, there seem to be many activities and events that take students out of our school. This can result in some students missing several days in a row.  It can be a family trip to some southern destination, the flu bug, or missing class because of an extracurricular activity.  Any absence creates additional pressures on our students; makeup work, missed notes and rescheduling labs and tests.  Parents, please discuss with your child their academic, family and job responsibilities.  In some cases students are able to get work done before a trip or during the trip.  Often times the school work can be done only on their return.  Plan for this increased work load and help them organize their time and set appropriate priorities.  It is also helpful to check in with their teachers and the High School office when an absence is anticipated.

Being involved in extra-curricular activities can be very healthy and can teach students many helpful life-long tools such as: time management, commitment, and discipline, not to mention being a part of a team.  These skills learned; the team building and social time with peers, and the time management skills needed to hold everything together, create life-long memories.  However, it is important to have parents monitor a student's activities and help them prioritize their schedule.  School work needs to come first!

Summer School reminder

MAHS will be running summer school for 7-12th grade students from June 7 until July 1. Summer school runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 until 12:00. Letters will be sent home to parents informing them about this option in the next few weeks.
