The Morris FFA is having another stellar year. The FFA state convention will be held at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul campus on May 2. Good luck to all who will be participating.
The Morris Area FFA Poultry Team participated in the Region III FFA Poultry Career Development Event (CDE) on Feb. 18 in Holdingford. This CDE includes live bird selection, egg grading, knowledge test, and parts identification. Members of the team are Tyler Henrichs (2nd), Aaron Wehking, Bryce Jergensen, and Nic Vipond (6th). The team placed 2nd and will advance to state.
The Morris Area FFA Small Animal Evaluation and Vet Science team completed small animal identification, including birds, fish, dogs, cats, parasites, and rabbits, kennel management practicum, respiratory and reproduction anatomy practicum, and a knowledge test. The team placed 6th and will advance to state. Team members include Paige Strand, Amanda Moser, and Rebekah Aanerud.
The Crops CDE consists of Crop Seed and Plant and Weed ID. The team placed 6th and team members include Tony Domnick, Brody Bahr, Mac Beyer (10th individual), and Ethan Bruer.
Each Agriculture Sales team member prepared a product summary sheet and completed a sales presentation on their project with a judge as their "customer". They each complete an ag sales knowledge test, a team market analysis problem and presentation and an individual practicum in cold calling, telephone order taking, customer relations, or advertising. The team placed 2nd and will advance to state. Team members include Michael Michaelson (6th), Tom Holland, Jordan Staples (5th), and Courtney Ehleringer (2nd).
The Morris Area FFA General Livestock Judging Team recently competed at the Region III FFA Career Development Event in Glenwood on April 7. This CDE consists of judging cattle, sheep, and hogs, as well as questions and reasons classes. The team placed 1st and will advance to state. Placing were Brady Wulf (8th), Natalie Johnston (2nd), Lloyd Lesmeister (7th), and Jake Moser (5th).
The Morris Area FFA Meats Evaluation team placed 1st and will advance to state. This CDE includes Retail Meat Cut Identification and Meat Judging Classes. The coach for this team is Travis Strahm. Placing were Shauna Kill (1st), Brooke Wente (2nd), and Kendra Sperr (7th).
The Morris Area Farm Management team placed 2nd and will advance to state. This CDE includes completing a farm business management record keeping problem and a knowledge test. The coaches for this team are Paul Mahoney and Tyler Bennett from Ag Country Farm Credit Services. Placing in the event were Kaitlin Van Horn (2nd), Renae Mullins (7th), Kayla Lesmeister, and Emily Moser.
The Morris Area Dairy Evaluation Team competed in Fargo on March 17 at the Region III CDE Event. The team placed 3rd and will advance to state. This contest requires students to judge classes of dairy cattle, complete linear evaluation, and pedigrees. Team members include Eric Wulf, Matt Huot, Connor Metzger, and Taylor Hufford.
The Morris Area Ag Mechanics Team placed 5th. This contest included practicums in agriculture mechanics, small HP tractors, and combines. It also included a knowledge test. Team members include Tim Smith, Jesse Disselkamp, Tyler VanEps, and Kevin Knobloch.
The Morris Area Wildlife Team placed 8th. This contest includes fish and wildlife ID and a knowledge test. Members also complete evaluation of a habitat plan for wildlife. The team members include Jordan Fletcher, Jordan Gillespie, Casey Pashen, and Justin Stallman.
