Morris Area FFA members have been very busy the past couple months.
The Food Science Team competed at the State Contest in Mankato at Minnesota State University. The team consists of product development and marketing, sensory and triangle tests, food safety and quality assurance, and consumer relations. The team of four was Sydney Engebretson, Chelsey Ehleringer, Carly Gullickson, and Beth Holland. They placed sixth in state.
FFA Speaking CDEs
Three Morris Area FFA Chapter members participated in the Regional FFA Speaking CDEs at Ridgewater College. Shauna Kill participated in the Extemporaneous Speaking CDE. She chose a topic from a hat a half hour before giving her speech and had 30 minutes to write and prepare beforehand. Shauna utilized Agriculture publications and FFA Materials to put her speech together. Trent Wulf participated in the Creed Speaking CDE. Trent recited the FFA Creed and answered questions from the judges about how his agriculture background related to the creed. Steph Hennen participated in Prepared Public Speaking. Her speech was about the Humane Society of the United States or HSUS and the negative impacts they have on agriculture. Shauna placed first in Extemporaneous Speaking, Trent placed second in Creed, and Steph placed first in Public Speaking. They will all advance to state competition.
Five FFA members applied for and will receive their Minnesota State FFA Degree this year. They filed all paperwork, were interviewed and were approved to receive the degree. Lloyd Lesmeister was chosen for Star in Ag. Placement and Brooke Wente was chosen for star in Agri-science not only at the Regional level, but were also chosen as State Stars. Jake Moser was runner up at the regional level. Other members that will receive their State FFA Degree in May include Steph Hennen and Hailey Kotts.
Seven FFA members completed their FFA Proficiencies this year as well. All applications placed in the region and will move onto State FFA judging. Jake Moser, Brody Bahr, Brooke Wente, Jesse Disselkamp, Steph Hennen, Lloyd Lesmeister, and Matt Huot all completed at least one application.
The FFA Novice Parliamentary Procedure Team participated in the regional event on Thursday at Ridgewater College. Novice Parliamentary Procedure members work as a team to look at an agenda for 20 minutes and plan out their Parli Demo, which they give in front of three judges and then are critiqued and scored. The team consisted of Beth Holland, Trent Wulf, Rebakah Aanerud, Matt Munsterman, Shayla Schmidgall, Steven Koehl, Isaac Wente, and Joanna Moser. They placed first at regions and advance on to state.
The FFA Job Interview CDE was held at Ridgewater College. Kaylee Brandt participated in mock applying for a job position. She prepared her resume and cover letter prior to the event. When she arrived she completed an online job application and then had a job interview. Kaylee placed first and will advance to state.
Morris Area FFA Members attended the Ridgewater Skills Fest on Feb. 9. Ridgewater Skills fest allows students to participate in post-secondary related Technical College skills and compete against schools all across Minnesota. The Ag Knowledge Bowl team placed first at this contests. The Ag Knowledge Bowl Team members include Jake Moser, Shauna Kill, Lloyd Lesmeister, and Brady Wulf. Brody Bahr placed second in the Arc Welding competition and Darion Helberg, Connor Metzger, Matt Huot, and Joel Harrison placed second as a team in the Dairy Linear competition.
