Tiger girls down Minnewaska in home opener

Strong defense helped Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta down Minnewaska 44-25 on Thursday in the Tigers' home opener.

The Tigers took an 11-point lead into halftime, scoring 22 points in each half.

"We need to make the easy shots," said coach Dale Henrich. "We shot 47 percent from the field, but went 8-for-9 (89 percent) from the line.

"We hit the boards well and kept our turnovers down," added Henrich. "This was a nice team win."

Tracy Meichsner played a solid all-around game, finishing with 14 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Beth Holland scored eight points and MaKenzie Smith had six points and six steals.

The Lakers' Paige Anderson had six points and six rebounds, and Veronica Weisel and Sydney Joos both scored seven points.

The Tigers play next at Litchfield on Saturday.
