Tiger girls fall to conference-leading Falcons
In a battle for the West Central Conference South lead, the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta girls' basketball team fell short Monday night at home. Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City increased its lead to 7-0 with a 55-34 win over the Tigers.
The Falcons are 9-3 overall and have a two-game advantage over the Tigers, now 5-2 and 8-3.
The Falcons shot 50 percent from the field and had three players reach double digits in scoring. Miranda Hopp led the way with 14 points, followed by Katie Knisley with 13 points and seven rebounds. Lauren Kinzler chipped in 11 points.
The Tigers shot just 29 percent from the floor. Nicole Gillespie scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the team. Erin Schieler also pulled down five boards.
"The Tigers were out worked and out hustled," said coach Ken Gagner. "ACGC was simply a better team tonight.
"We couldn't stop them inside, nor out side, and their defense had us completely frazzled," Gagner added. "We didn't get any easy looks.
"They put on a clinic and we were the students."
