Tiger girls fall in double overtime
West Central Area charged back from a 17-point deficit to defeat Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 80-78 in a double-overtime girls' basketball game Saturday in Barrett.
The Knights lead the Section 6AA-West standings at 17-4 overall. The Tigers are now 14-6 and currently sit in fourth place behind Staples-Motley and Benson.
"From the fans' perspective, this was a great game from start to finish," said coach Ken Gagner. "Each team had opportunities to win the game and this time the Knights were able to get the last bucket.
"I am very proud of the girls for their effort. Each young lady who stepped on the floor played a big part and some of girls had career nights."
Erin Schieler went 8-for-8 from the line and pulled down 12 boards, part of a career high 22-point performance.
"She just showed tremendous heart," said Gagner.
Kelsey Greenwaldt was a perfect 5-for-5 from the line and had a career-high 17 points before fouling out with 2.5 minutes to go in regulation.
Post/forward Nicole Gillespie was a perfect 4-of-4 from the line with eight rebounds and five assists.
Mary Rentz had to take over the ball handling duties the last 10 minutes when Jenna Nelson fouled out and scored 18 points while grabbing 11 boards as well.
"I give credit to coach Pat Anderson for staying with his team," added Gagner. "They never quit and he deserves the fine record his team has earned."
