Tiger girls stay perfect on the road

The Morris Area girls' basketball team kept its road record perfect with a 61-28 win at Paynesville Monday.

It was the Tigers' fifth straight win. They are 8-0 on the road and 15-2 overall this season.

"The game was sloppy at times, but the kids did what they had to do," said coach Ken Gagner.

"All 12 varsity players saw extended action with forward Mary Rentz being the only Tiger in double figures with 18," commented Gagner. "We were able to work on some different things and it was fun to see so many kids get into the scoring column."

The Tiger defense held the Bulldogs to only 10 field goals and committed only seven fouls, limiting Paynesville's free-throw attempts to 10.

Offensively, the Tigers took a 36-11 lead at halftime and hit 25 field goals throughout the game.

Megan Dierks added nine points and Stefanie Strobel and Jenna Nelson had seven apiece.

Also scoring were Kelly Ritter and Nicole Gillespie with four apiece, Heather Gagner, Kelsey Greenwaldt, and Erin Schieler with three each, Alissa Melberg with two, and Kelsey Amundson with one.

Nelson led the Tigers at the boards with nine rebounds. Gillespie grabbed seven.

Strobel recorded five steals.

Nelson dished out a team-high four assists.
