Tiger girls take first loss across the border
Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta was swept in neighboring South Dakota on the first road trip of the season. The varsity Tigers fell short by one point, 47-46.
Despite an early deficit, the Tigers took a 30-23 lead into halftime.
"We came out a little flat falling behind 3-10, before we rallied to take a seven-point lead at half-time," said coach Ken Gagner.
"We were doing a lot of things correctly - boxing out, running the floor, getting to the line - but we just had a hard time finishing our shots," he said. "Milbank started to hit some shots in the second half and we just couldn't manage to hold on to our lead."
Milbank senior Mandy Frogner hit the game-winning free throw with 4.1 seconds on the clock.
"Mary Rentz was able to get a quality shot off at the horn that just rolled around the rim and dropped off the back side," Gagner said.
Three Tigers scored in double figures. Rentz led the Tigers with 16 points, while Nicole Gillespie added 15 and Jenna Nelson chipped in 11.
Kelsey Greenwaldt led the Tigers on the boards with 13 rebounds
