Tiger girls win third straight basketball game
Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta improved to .500 with a pair of wins in girls' basketball. The Tigers defeated Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 52-41 on the road and Lac qui Parle Valley 52-51 at home.
At Long Prairie Friday, Dec. 17, the Tigers fought back from a 24-19 halftime deficit to win their second game of the season.
Erin Schieler recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Hannah Sayles added 14 points including four three-pointers.
The Tigers grabbed 32 rebounds and cut down their turnovers to a season-low of 20.
The Tigers picked up their third straight win, and second in the West Central Conference South, when they hosted Lac qui Parle Valley Tuesday.
The Tigers came back from six points down at halftime to win by one.
With 15 second left in the game, the Eagles missed a free throw and the Tigers got the ball to half court when they called a timeout. After the break, Shadow Olson made a clutch pass from the side out-of-bounds line to Erin Schieler who turned and made the go-ahead basket with 11 seconds remaining.
The Eagles then got off two shots in the lane, but neither could fall, preserving the Tiger lead at the buzzer.
Schieler finished with a game-high 19 points for the Tigers, which overcame 25 turnovers. Sarah Kuhn grabbed 10 rebounds.
Jen Kack had 12 points and Kiona DuFrane collected 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists for LQPV. Jordan Halvorson hooked 10 rebounds.
