Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta gymnasts traveled to Melrose Saturday to participate in the Section 6A Gymnastics Meet. The Tigers finished the day with a team score of 111.38.
Melrose won with a score of 147.53 to advance to the state meet Friday at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavillion.
The top four individuals in each event, including girls from Melrose, Alexandria, and Willmar, will compete Saturday at the state meet.
Kendra Buro set a new personal best on bars with a 6.775.
"She has been working hard on her routine and added a few new moves," said Oberg. "It paid off."
Hailey Kotts stuck her beam routine and scored a 7.0, nearly breaking her personal best score of 7.05.
"The coaches appreciate her efforts this season knowing that beam is her least favorite event," Oberg explained. "She is solid up there and doesn't show the nerves. I believe she stuck five routines during meets this season.
Savannah Aanerud set a new personal best on beam with a 6.875.
"She has really stepped up the pace at the end of the season and made some big improvements," added Oberg. "Being a seventh grader, it will be very interesting to watch her gymnastics career develop over the next several years."
The team event score on beam of 27.275 was a new season high.
"This event has been a roller coaster ride for us this season. It has been full of ups and downs - one meet we will have fewer than five falls and then the next meet we are in the double digits with falls," explained Oberg. "It was nice to end the season on a good note with the event high.
"Overall, we are very happy with the results," Oberg added. "The girls gave it their all and went for it. They can be proud of their accomplishments this season."
