The Academic Team Award is calculated using the top 60 percent of the roster, so 17 Tigers' GPAs were averaged and as a team, the average GPA was 3.926.

At the meet, it was by no surprise that Melrose, among the state’s gymnastics elite, regardless of class, won the team Section 6A championship with a sizzling score of 149.1, topping its winning score of 147.5 in the section meet a year ago in Willmar.

Incomparable Jailyn Brinkman, the Dutchmen’s lone senior scorer, won all-around (37.975) a second straight year and this time in the Dragons’ gym every individual event as well with a teammate as the runner-up in each category.

The section championship was the 20th for Melrose, a three-time state champion, since 1990.

For the Tigers, Kendra Buro tied her personal best score on the uneven bars, and set a new personal best on the floor.

Kindra Cannon stuck her beam routine, setting a new personal best score.

Savannah Aanerud performed another stuck beam routine, receiving 10th in all around competition.

Katie Cannon also set a new personal best score on the beam.

The Tiger gymnasts finish their season second in the West Central Conference with a 3-2 record and fourth in the section with a 8-3 overall record.
