Tiger gymnasts wrap up regular season

The Morris Area gymnastics team closed out the regular season with dual meets versus Marshall at home and at Paynesville.

On Tuesday, Jan. 20, the varsity team scored a season-high team total, but fell to the Marshall Tigers 131.75-116.9 on parents' night.

Coach Trent Oberg said that since it was a non-conference, as well as a non-section meet, the girls were under less pressure and were able to have fun with their routines.

"It was a very positive meet with a lot of energy and enthusiasm," said Oberg. "We saw new tricks from many of the gymnasts."

Michelle Jipson stuck her beam routine giving her a personal-best score of 8.0. She also scored a personal-best of 8.35 on vault.

Larissa Schmidgall scored a personal-best score of 5.2 on bars. She also scored a personal-best of 24.85 in all-around competition.

Katie Huot stuck her beam routine and achieved a personal-best score of 31.25 and took fourth place in all-around competition.

Rachel Moser tied her personal-best with a 6.85 on beam.

Larissa Schmidgall scored a personal-best of 24.85 in all-around competition.

In junior varsity competition, the Tigers defeated Marshall 80.2-33.7.

Michaela Jarvis competed on vault for the first time and scored a 3.3.

Abby Travis competed on vault for the first time and scored a 4.7. It was also her first competition on bars, where she scored a 2.0. Travis stuck her beam routine giving her a personal-best score of 5.4. She performed in all events for the first time, scoring a total of 14.8 in all-around competition.

Amanda Moser scored a personal-best of 4.4 on bars.

Risa Fehr recorded a personal-best score of 4.0 on bars. In her first time competing in floor she scored a 2.8.

Kendra Buro scored a 2.4 in her first time competing on bars.

On Thursday, Jan. 22, the Tigers traveled to Paynesville for their last dual meet of the season, falling to the Bulldogs 116.03-110.13.

Coach Oberg said it was a rough night for the Tigers.

"We were down - illness, nagging injuries, the blahs," he said. "It was not what we wanted to have happen."

A couple varsity highlights included Larissa Schmidgall scoring a personal-best on bars with a 5.5 and Paige Schieler scoring a personal-best on bars with a 6.5.

The junior varsity was defeated 95-86.6.

Many personal-best scores were recorded including Travis on vault with a 6.7 and on bars with a 2.8; Cammi Aanerud on bars with a 4.9; Kendra Buro on bars with a 3.2; Kendra Dalseide on beam with a 4.6; Amanda Moser on beam with a 5.5; Risa Fehr on floor with a 3.9; and Caroline Fritz tied her's with a 6.8 on beam.

Hailey Kotts competed in all-around and achieved a personal-best score of 22.9.

Travis improved her all-around scored to a 17.3.
