Tiger Sharks see winter success
Tiger Sharks is a youth program run through the Regional Fitness Center by Assistant Director of Aquatics and head swimming coach Anita Nelson. This winter season ran Jan. 6 through Feb. 28, and saw 55 swimmers total.
“We saw great numbers, what I love most is seeing all of the younger kids coming to practice every night excited to swim, we had a full pool each night at practice,” Nelson said. “They have a ton of fun.”
Along with fun practices, the Tiger sharks had the opportunity to swim in three meets over the winter as well. The home meet in Morris had the most Tiger sharks participate with 12. The Moorhead meet had four Tiger sharks in the pool, and Alexandria had 11 participate.
Pictured in the photo are some young swimmers that participated in Tiger sharks this season. They are Nora Boyle, John Alderson, Issac Just, Mauriciao Obregon, Darin Vanhorn, Jayden Alderson, Montgomery Minnick, Claire Reed, Ava Boyle, Natalia Obregon, Samuel Just, Hannah Cegela, Greta Hentges, Daytona Hoberg, Justin Straight, Rainy Eineichner, Emma Dingman, Hunter Vaneps, Pearl Schmidgall, Jaclyn Hardy, Rose Pederson, Acacia Wycoff, Ryan Dingman, Simon Wulff, Levi Schmidgall, Makenna Hufford, Sequoia Wycoff, Maddison Solvie, Noah Wulff, Julia Ladner, Teresa Boyd, and Christopher Just.
This program orginated in hopes to build back up both boys and girls swimming programs in Morris.
“Seeing the numbers that we are starting to get gives me some hope that we can do that. Tiger sharks is the program the kids need to start in before high school. They learn so much and fall in love with swimming. My hope is to continue to grow this program and to see it become something even bigger than it already is. We had success with meets, the kids are learning more of the strokes and how to race, and in most of the meets, we saw every kid coming out with some personal best times. We have a ton of fun.”
Next season for Tiger Sharks is Summer 2014, and it will run June 9 through Aug. 1.
