The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta girls' softball team completed a very successful 2011 season. The Tigers finished 20-4 overall and won the West Central Conference South title with an undefeated record of 16-0. The season ended with a 2-2 showing in the Section 3AA tournament.
"We had a great year," said coach Mary Holmberg. "The girls were focused and worked hard to achieve their goals."
Six seniors played crucial roles on the team. They are Kelsey DeCamp, Haley Henrichs, Hannah Sayles, Haley Scheldorf, Dani Schultz, and MacKenzie Weatherly.
"All of these girls led our team by their words and actions," said Holmberg. "We will miss them next year."
2011 was the first season of the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta pairing.
"It was a great year for our program," added Holmberg. "The junior varsity had a winning record of 13-2 and the junior high had successful seasons as well."
Dani Schultz, MacKenzie Weatherly, Hannah Sayles, Sadie Fischer, and Haley Scheldorf were named all-conference. Kelsey DeCamp received an honorable mention.
Weatherly was named the Most Valuable Player in the West Central South. She also received All-State honors from the Minnesota High School Softball Coaches' Association.
"MacKenzie has been a very dedicated player," said Holmberg. "She has put in a tremendous amount of work on her own to make her a skilled pitcher.
Schultz was named to the All-Star game sponsored by the Minnesota High School Softball Coaches' Association.
Weatherly and Schultz were also named to the Section 3AA team.
Along with Weatherly and Schultz, Sadie Fischer and Haley Scheldorf joined Holmberg's 300 club. Schultz was actually a member of the 500 club.
"Dani has been such a consistent hitter throughout her career," Holmberg said.
"Mac made huge strides hitting this year and showed a lot of improvement."
"Sadie was a solid lead-off hitter averaging .365.
"Haley consistently hit in the 300s all year long."
