Tiger tennis season is in full swing

The Morris Area Tiger girls' tennis team started practice Monday and hosted West Central Area for the first match of the season Friday morning.

Coach Jim Gillis and his assistant Eric Buchanan are working with a more experienced team this season.

Three seniors return to lead the Tigers in 2011. They are captain Sarah Matthews-Saugstad, Marlee Morton, and Renae Mullins.

Four juniors are on the varsity squad. They are Darcey Aronson, Elizabeth Schneider, Megan Wagner, and Shelbey Marthaler.

Sophomores include Carly Gullickson, Emily Moser, Kaitlin Vogel, and Kjersa Anderson.

Kindra Cannon is the lone freshman on the tennis team.

Six eighth graders and eight seventh graders make up the junior high squad.

The team will have five matches completed before school starts. On Monday, the Tigers travel to Osakis for a non-conference match and on the following Monday they will be at Minnewaska.

The Tigers' next home match is Wednesday, Aug. 31 when they host Yellow Medicine East. The Tigers start September with a match at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle on Thursday, Sept. 1

The Tigers will host five other home meets throughout the regular season.

Benson will be in town on Sept. 8, Sauk Centre on Sept. 12, Montevideo on Sept. 19, and MACCRAY for the season finale on Oct. 3.

Section play begins Oct. 10 with the state meet being held Oct. 26 and 28 in the University of Minnesota.
