The Morris Area/Hancock/ Chokio-Alberta wrestling team participated in the Grant County Invitational Dec. 13 and traveled to Benson for a dual Dec. 16.

GRANT COUNTY INVITE

Tim Ostby placed second to lead the Tigers at the Grant County Invitational in Barrett.

Ostby finished the day 2-1 in the 125-pound class. He won his first match against Zach Matthys of Otter Tail Central by fall in 1:18 and his second match by a 6-2 decision over Zach Fridgen of Border West. In the championship match, Ostby dropped an 8-5 decision to Skylar Price of Greenbush-Middle River/Badger.

Eric Goette took fourth place at 135 pounds. Goette started out with a fall in 3:33 over Tanner Sovde of Greenbush-Middle River/Badger. He then lost a 13-4 major decision to Sam Haas of Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd. Goette bounced back in his third match with a fall in 4:57 over Brendan Hart of Otter Tail Central. In the third-place match, Goette dropped a 7-5 overtime decision to Aaron Ray of West Central Area.

Tanner Berning took fourth place at 152 pounds. He started with a 4-1 loss to Keith Pudwill of Browerville/Eagle Valley, before winning three in a row. His first win was a 2-1 decision over Matt Brehmer of Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd, followed by a fall at 2:41 over Garrett Behrens of Border West. He then won a 7-2 decision over Adam Patrick of Alexandria. In the third-place match, Berning lost a 7-2 decision to Keith Pudwill of Browerville/Eagle Valley.

At 103 pounds, Tony Domnick finished the day 3-2 for fifth place. He started out dropping a 6-3 decision to Mason Swegarden of Lake Park-Audubon. He then won two straight starting with an 11-0 major decision over Ridge Quistorff of Browerville/Eagle Valley. In a rematch of the first round, Domnick defeated Swegarden by fall at 5:04. Domnick then lost to Cody Whitney of Mille Lacs by a 16-1 technical fall. In the fifth-place match Domnick won an 8-6 decision over Tyler Giza of Fergus Falls.

Zach Gibson placed fifth at 215 pounds. Gibson narrowly lost a 3-2 decision to Bill Connelly of Border West in his first match. He then defeated Joe Anderson of Lake Park-Audubon by fall in 2:51 and Lucas Maschler of Browerville/Eagle Valley by a 6-4 decision. Gibson then lost a 2-1 decision to Joe Hutt of Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd. He won the fifth-place match by defeating Bradley Brown of Mille Lacs in a 7-1 decision.

Josh Nelson took sixth place at 140 pounds. Nelson started out with a 9-7 loss to Brad Schettler of Browerville/Eagle Valley. He then won a 4-3 decision over Tomm Ingle of Greenbush-Middle River/Badger. Nelson dropped the next match 5-1 to Lucas Betterman of Alexandria. In the fifth-place match, Nelson lost by fall in 1:09 to Tyler Olson of Otter Tail Central.

At 275 Jeff Knobloch took sixth place. He lost his first match to Alex Yeager of Greenbush-Middle River/Badger by fall in 1:27. He then won over Taylor Hanson of Fergus Falls by fall in 4:28. In the fifth-place match, Knobloch lost by fall in 1:59 to Ross Bollin of Browerville/Eagle Valley.

Ostby, Nelson, and Goette picked up wins for the Tigers Dec. 16 at Benson.

At 125 pounds, Ostby won an 8-4 decision over Josh Frenzel

Nelson won a 16-6 major decision over David Tweeten at 135 pounds.

In the 145-pound match, Goette won on a 16-8 major decision over Brandon Hanson.

The Tigers filled all but three of the other weights.

At 103 pounds, Domnick lost a 13-4 major decision to Morgan Staton.

Jordan Thooft lost by fall in the 112-pound match in 3:25 to Seth Pillatzki.

John Zierke dropped a 15-0 technical fall to Matt Plumhoff at 119 pounds.

Berning dropped a 5-0 decision to Brady Wersinger at 160 pounds.

At 171 pounds, Ryan Beyer lost a 12-6 decision to Jim Huston.

Wade Ehlers lost by fall at 3:07 to Justin Golden at 189 pounds.

At 215 pounds, Gibson was pinned by Chris Carruth in 3:49.

Knobloch lost by fall in 2:51 to Dalton Staton at 285 pounds.
