The Morris Area / Hancock / Chokio-Alberta Tiger wrestlers were looking for payback for a recent loss to Quad County, this time the matchup was in the Team Section 3AA-North tournament. The payback didn’t happen, the Tigers went down 41-25 – almost the same result as their last meeting with Quad County (48-21). This loss ended their team season on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

The Tigers lineup was changed due to an injury at the Morris Invite days prior and a medical issue during skin checks before the match. As a result, the Tigers had to forfeit at 120 pounds and insert a new wrestler at 152 pounds.

The Tigers Matt Munsterman won by a fall in 1:37 over Jake Roiger at 106 pounds. In their previous meeting, Munsterman took Roiger by decision – still a win, but for less overall points.

“Things looked promising,” said assistant coach Blaine Hill.

Then Quad County started putting points on the board, just like last time. Picking up six points with the 120 pound forfeit, Quad also won by pin at 113 pounds and tech fall at 126 pounds, putting them up 17-6.

Travis Ostby won by major decision over Cole Hatch 14-2–his 24th win this season, accumulating nearly 75 career wins already, just as a sophomore. Coaches are certain he’ll be over 100 by the end of next season.

Another win was picked up by Dillan Johnson at 138 pounds. Johnson won by decision over Austin Friese 11-5, making the score 17-13.

Quad County picked up the next six of the last eight matches to secure the 41-25 win, advancing to the semifinals where they fell to No. 1 seed from the Section 3AA-South, the Worthington Trojans, last Friday, Feb. 14.

The two wins for the Tigers came at 182 pounds and 285 pounds. Jordan Thooft won by pin over Brian Bratsch in 2:45, and Jacob Sperr won by pin over Ethan Beckler in 0:56.

The Tigers team play is done, now they are focusing on individual advancement. The Individual Section 3AA Tournament starts on Friday, Feb. 22 with final rounds being played on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Luverne with the Class AA State Tournament beginning Thursday, Feb. 27.
