Tigers add Alexandria to gymnastics schedule

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta gymnastics team participated in its first dual meet of the season at Alexandria Tuesday, Dec. 11.

"In my tenure as coach for the Tigers gymnastics program, this is the first time that we have competed against Alexandria in a dual meet situation," explained coach Trent Oberg. "They have been a part of our Section 6A meet, so I thought that it would be good to compete against them in a dual meet setting.

"We had a decent meet at both levels," added Oberg. "I think that the girls were a little off that night - sluggish and loose during some of their tricks and routines. Several of the gymnasts appeared to be tired and worn out. The concern for illness was about to set in.

"Thankfully, we did not have any injuries during the meet. That is always a concern when a gymnast is not feeling well. Being under the weather impacts the body in many different ways: strength, endurance, control, balance... just to name a few.

"We did have several positive moments during the night," added Oberg. "In varsity action, Kindra Cannon stuck her beam routine. She is the first gymnast to perform her routine without any falls this season. That is a big accomplishment. We hope to see more of those 'sticky feet' performances from the Lady Tigers."

Kourtney Giese tied for fourth place on vault and tied for fifth place on bars.
