Tigers advance to state track & field meet
Morris Area will be well represented at this weekend's state track and field meet at Hamline University.
Seven Tigers advanced by placing in the top two at the Section 6A meet at Minnesota State University, Moorhead on Thursday, June 3.
As a team, the Tiger boys placed first of 28 teams participating at the meet by earning 107 points. Perham came in second with 70 points. Staples-Motley placed third, Pequot Lakes took fourth, Pillager finished fifth, and West Central Area was sixth.
Lincoln Arnold set a new school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.66. His time also broke the Section 6A record of 49.70 previously set by Tony Casper in 1982 and tied by Josh Smith in 2004.
Arnold also won the 200-meter dash in 23.25.
Stefan Lemke won both the 800 and 1600-meter runs with times of 1:59.96 and 4:29.34.
Jackson Henrich won the discus event with a throw of 159-6 and the shot put with a 47-3.5.
The 4X400 relay team needed a first-place finish to advance to state, and they succeeded with a time of 3:29.21. The team includes Cody Cannon, Corey Nohl, Arnold, and Lemke.
Conor Arnold also qualified for the state meet with a second-place finish in the shot put of 44-10.25.
Rachel Moser placed first in the pole vault with a 9-7 and will compete at state.
Cannon just missed qualifying for state in the hurdles by placing third. He had a time of 16.35 in the 110-meter race and 41.27 in the 30-meter.
Daniel Tiernan also came close to a state finish taking third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:24.44.
Cannon placed fourth in the pole vault with an 11-6.
Tristan Michealson placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a 17.06.
Corey Nohl finished fifth in both the 100-meter dash in 12.00 and the 200-meter in 23.89.
Moser took fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.6.
Eric Goette placed sixth in the pole vault with an 11-0.
