Tigers defeat Paynesville 55-54, advance to Saturday's semi-final game

Katie Holzheimer'strio of free throws in the final seconds gave Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta a 55-54 advantage Thursday, as the Tigers defeat Paynesville Area to advance in the Sub-Section 6AA girls' basketball tournament.

After jumping out to a 9-0 start, the the fourth seeded Tigers led by five at halftime. The Bulldogs, the No. 5 seed, rallied in the second half to take the lead, but Holzheimer's 3-for-3 performance at the line saved the Tigers to play another day.

MaKenzie Smith and Beth Holland led the Tigers with 16 points apiece. Holzheimer finished with 14.

The Tigers will face New London-Spicer Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at St. John's University. The top-seeded Wildcats defeated No. 8 St. John's Prep 70-23.
