Tigers down Minnewaska with late TD
The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta football team kicked off the 2011 season with a 13-6 victory at Minnewaska Friday.
Tied 7-7 since the first quarter, the Tigers called a screen play near midfield with three minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Tanner Picht snagged the short pass from Jake Torgerson and sprinted 53 yards to paydirt for the win.
The Tigers went up 7-0 on the opening kickoff when Tom Holland scooted 80 yards and Mac Beyer kicked the conversion.
Later in the first quarter, a one-yard burst by Laker Andrew Ostrander made it 7-6 and Landon Thiel booted the conversion for a 7-7 tie which lasted through two more quarters and most of the fourth.
Minnewaska didn't have a turnover but suffered its second tough loss after opening a week before losing 7-0 at St. Peter.
