Tigers down Section 6AA West rival WCA
The Morris Area boys' basketball team was victorious 81-68 against rival West Central Area Saturday on the home court. The win improves the Tigers' record to 9-3 overall, and while the Knights are not a conference foe, they are in Section 6AA West.
"Since the Knights are in our section, it was an important win for the Tigers," said Mark Torgerson.
Lincoln Arnold scored a career-high 27 points to help the Tigers to a 42-26 lead at halftime.
After the break, the Knights mounted a comeback. WCA closed the gap with eight of their 10 three-point baskets in the second half, but got no closer than eight points.
"WCA is usually a good defensive team, but we did a better job on the offense," said Torgerson.
The Tigers shot 55 percent (34-62) from the field, while the Knights were 28-of-70.
The Knights recorded 21 fouls, but the Tigers were not capitalizing on the bonus shots. At the free-throw line, the Tigers were 9-of-20.
"We continue to work on free-throws in practice," said Torgerson.
Also scoring in double figures were Cory Hennen with 19 and Chris Scott with 11.
Other Tigers in the scoring column were Tyler Meichsner with nine, Jackson Henrich with seven, and Taylor Nohl with four.
Corey Nohl, Henrich, and Scott all grabbed seven rebounds.
Meichsner dished out six assists.
