After four matches, the Buccaneers were ahead 14-4. Lone point scorer up to that point was Jared Rohloff, who got the Tigers on the scoreboard with a 15-5 major decision over Jason Martinez at 120 pounds.

The Tigers strength comes in the middle weights, and they didn’t disappoint said assistant coach Blaine Hill.

Travis Ostby was matched against the Bucks No. 10 ranked Tracer Lee at 132 pounds. Ostby pinned Lee in 1:46.

Next up were seniors Dillan Johnson and Myles Smith, who both picked up decisions. Johnson defeated Mason Pullis 7-1 at 138 pounds, and Smith beat Eric Schwagel 7-5 at 145 pounds. After these wins, the Tigers led 16-14.

Border West then picked up two majors decisions to go up 24-16, but senior Jordan Thooft picked up a pin over Cormick Combellick at 170 pounds to pull the Tigers to within two points.

The Tigers lost two matches at 182 and 195 pounds to give the Bucks a 33-22 lead, but Alec Gausman picked up a forfeit, closing to within five and putting everything on the 285 pounders to decide the match outcome.

Junior Jacob Sperr took down his opponent Chris Kleindl, putting him on his back in a cradle. Sperr had his back flat on the mat while holding the cradle, and Kleindl picked up the defensive pin and the win for Border West 39-28.

“A [defensive pin] is a very rare moment to see in high school wrestling,” Hill said.
