Tigers fall to Braves in baseball action
Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta dropped a 5-2 game at Benson Thursday.
The Braves' Morgan Staton cleared the bases with a drive down the left-field line in the fourth inning to pull Benson ahead 4-2. Brady McDonald and Tyler Krienke led off the frame with singles and Matt Ahrndt drew a walk to load the bases. Staton's double knocked in all three and he later scored on Anthony Berreau's single after moving to third on Tanner Mikkelson's sacrifice fly.
Luke Schwarz, who scored the Braves' first run on Berreau's fielder's choice in the fourth, worked all seven innings on the mound to collect the win. He struck out four and gave up six hits and three walks.
Tanner Picht drove in the two runs for the Tigers with singles in the third and fifth innings.
"We just didn't get any timely hitting even though we put the ball in play most of the game," said coach Mark Torgerson. "Benson took advantage of one error and one big bases-loaded hit in beating us.
"Mac Beyer and Jacob Torgerson pitched well enough for us to win, but just came up a little short. Give credit to Benson pitcher Schwarz who pitched a good game."
