The Morris Area / Chokio-Alberta Tigers hit Chizek Field in Morris for their season opener against BOLD on Thursday, April 10. The defending Class A champion BOLD baseball team picked up where it left off last spring, riding Logan Sandgren’s strong pitching performance and a balanced offense to a 10-1 win over Morris/Chokio-Alberta on Thursday.

Sandgren, who one-hit Osakis in last June’s state championship game, worked four innings against the Tigers, allowing one hit and striking out nine. He didn’t walk a batter.

Brett Grund pitched the final three innings, striking out three and allowing a sixth-inning run.

Sandgren also drove in three runs and Grund drove in two. Trent Athmann had two hits and scored three times for BOLD.

The Tigers allowed seven unearned runs cross the plate defensively, and offensively, had some somewhat expected trouble.

It took a run through the entire batting lineup for the Tigers to finally make good contact off Sandgren. In the fourth inning with two outs, Corey Storck hit a single to right center, but was left on base after a groundout on the next play.

In the bottom of the sixth, Brady Jergenson tried to get a rally started with a leadoff single and stealing second. Bryce Jergenson grounded out, advancing Brady to third and into scoring position. Riley Biesterfeld came up to bat and knocked a single to score Brady for the Tigers lone run of the night.

MA/C-A’s Biesterfeld, Storck and Brady Jergenson had the team’s three hits.

The Tigers play in Madison against Lac qui Parle Valley today (Friday, April 11) and host Benson on Tuesday, April 15 before a week off coming back the following Tuesday, April 22 to host Melrose at Chizek field. Both home games start at 5 p.m.
