Tigers fall to Wahpeton, defeat Montevideo
After a tough overtime loss to Wahpeton, the Morris Area boys' basketball team returned to action with a West Central Conference South win over Montevideo Tuesday.
Morris Area 67
The Tigers played the host team in Wahpeton Friday, Dec. 12 in the first game of a two-day tournament. After a 34-34 halftime score, the game was still tied at the end of regulation 63-63. Wahpeton took control in overtime, outscoring Morris Area 9-4 for the win.
The Tigers were scheduled to play East Grand Forks on Saturday, but the game was cancelled due to weather.
Three Tigers scored in double figures including Cory Hennen with 16 and Eric Riley and Jackson Henrich with 12 apiece.
Also scoring were Lincoln Arnold with eight, Chris Scott and Corey Nohl each with six, Taylor Nohl with four, and Tyler Meichsner with three.
The Tigers were 27-of-74 from the field, while Wahpeton was 18-of-45.
At the free-throw line the Tigers shot 55 percent, but Wahpeton hit 80 percent.
Henrich led the Tigers with 11 rebounds. He also blocked five shots.
Meichsner recorded five assists.
Morris Area 82
The Tigers took the lead in the first half Tuesday, taking a 43-36 advantage at halftime, and held on until the final 82-76 win over Montevideo.
The Tigers out shot the Thunder Hawks hitting 61.2 percent of baskets from the field. The Thunder Hawks shot at 46.7 percent.
Scott led the effort with 20 points. Hennen had 17 and Henrich had 15.
Also scoring were Arnold with eight, Taylor Nohl and Riley with five apiece, Meichsner with four, Matt Wulf with a three-pointer, Corey Nohl with three, and Josh Love with two.
Henrich led the Tigers with five rebounds.
Hennen and Taylor Nohl each dished out four assists.
