Tigers host Montevideo in first meet of 2010-11

After two postponements, the swimming and diving season finally got off to a start Dec. 21 when the Tigers hosted Montevideo. The Tiger varsity team fell to the Thunder Hawks 102-69.

"With the weather being unruly, this ended up being the Tigers' first meet of the season," said coach Megan Lange. "It was also parents' night. The boys are very appreciative of all the hard work that their parents do to help run the team, especially during home meets."  

The Tigers' next meet is Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the RFC in Morris. They will be hosting Melrose/Sauk Centre at 6 p.m.

"Even at the first meet of the season, there are always some improvements from the previous season," said Lange. "We had eight individual improved times."

Swimming improved times against Montevideo were Vaughn Dieter in the 200 and 500 free with 2:29.69 and 6:53.40; Matt Cotter in both the 50 and 100 Free with 27.11 and 1:04.41; Jackson Boever in the 100 Free with 1:02.67 and in the 100 Back with 1:27.60; Gage Anderson in the 100 Fly with 1:11.78; and Mickey Cotter in the 100 Breast with 1:28.93.

Several Tigers won in their respective events including Anderson in the 100 fly, Roy Reese in the 500 freestyle, Mickey Cotter in the the 100 breaststroke, as well as the 200 free relay and 400 free relay teams.

The meet started with the 200 medley relay in which the Tigers placed third and fourth. The team of Jackson Boever, Mickey Cotter, Gage Anderson, and Matthew Cotter took third in 2:10.41 and the team of Jacob Johnson, Brandon Pry, Thomas Roberts, and Jason Rinkenberger placed fourth in 2:24.51.

Vaughn Dieter placed fifth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:29.68.

Mickey Cotter placed fourth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 3:14.00.

Three Tigers swam in the 50 free where Roy Reese placed second in 25.32, Matthew Cotter placed fourth in 27.11, and Thomas Roberts finished sixth in 28.65.

In diving Travis Mithun placed fourth with a score of 103.50.

Three Tigers participated in the 100 freestyle, with Boever placing fourth in 1:02.63, Anderson taking fifth in 1:04.48, and Matthew Cotter finishing sixth in 1:04.41.

Reese won the 500 freestyle in 6:00.03, followed by Dieter in fifth place with a time of 6:53.40.

In the 200 free relay, the winning Tiger A team of Anderson, Matthew Cotter, Boever, and Reese finished with a time of 1:50.11. The B team of Dieter, Taylor Hufford, Matt Lembcke, and Mitchell Kill placed third in 2:04.29. The C team of Chris Tiernan, Matt Athey, Mike Rausch, and Rinkenberger finished fourth in 2:17.76.

Boever placed second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:27.60.

Mickey Cotter's first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:28.93 was followed by Kill in second with a time of 1:29.46 and Pry in third with a 1:30.71.

The 400 free relay team of Mithun, Mickey Cotter, Kill, and Reese took first with a time of 4:36.50. The B team of Dieter, Aaron Lawrence, Rausch, and Pry was second in 5:18.75.

Junior Varsity

Three Tigers finished the 50 free including Matt Lembcke in second with a 31.68, Taylor Hufford in fifth with a 34.10, and Jacob Johnson in sixth with a 36.36. Jason Rinkenberger and Sawyer Marthaler swam in the exhibition race.

Also participating in exhibition were Mike Rausch and Chris Tiernan in the one-meter diving.

Matt Athey placed third in the JV 100 free with a time of 2:53.04.
