Minneota/Canby/Lincoln HI hit two home runs, but it wasn’t nearly enough as No. 2-seeded Morris/Chokio-Alberta put up a pair of five-run frames to win its postseason opener.

Lauren Reimers ignited the Tigers’ offense with three hits, including a three-run double in the sixth that capped the scoring.

Brooke Gillespie scattered six hits, five earned runs and two strikeouts in five-plus innings of work to earn the win. Kayla Pring got the last four outs, three on strikeouts.

The No. 3-seeded Thunderbirds knocked the Tigers into the loser’s bracket after Erin McDurmont spun a two-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts and slugged a three-run homer.

Singles from Reimers in the first and Abby Daly in the fifth was the only offense MCA could muster against McDurmont, who struck out 11 in Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s 10-0, five-inning win over Benson/Hancock in its opener.

Pring was the hard-luck loser after striking out six and allowing five hits and just one walk in a complete-game performance.

The Tigers will play an elimination game on Saturday against Fairmont at 11 a.m. in Marshall. The winner will then play at 2 p.m.
