The Morris Area Tigers got the season off on the right foot with a 22-6 win over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Sept. 4 at Big Cat Stadium.
Tyler Hansen untied a tight game by returning the second-half kickoff 90 yards for Morris Area as the Tigers upended Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 22-6 in the football opener for both teams.
It was a non-conference game even though both are in the West Central Conference South.
The Falcons opened the scoring in the second quarter on Erik Whitcomb's 48-yard run and Morris answered immediately with Eric Riley's 57-yard scamper. The Falcons threatened late in the quarter marching down to Morris' 12-yard line, but Tanner Berning intercepted an A-C-GC pass in the end zone with 1:46 remaining for Morris.
Hansen collected another touchdown in the fourth quarter with a 12-yard run. The Tigers ran for 200 yards and A-C-GC 208. Whitcomb led all rushers with 111 yards on just 12 carries.
