Tigers pick up 1st volleyball victory

With two of the toughest matches of the season under their belt, the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers picked up their first win of the season Tuesday, Sept. 3 at Minnewaska.

The Tigers fell to the Jaguars 3-1 Monday, Aug. 26 in both program’s season opener.

The Tigers surprised the always strong Jaguars be taking the first set 28-26. The home team took control after that winning 25-15, 26-24, and 25-14.

Last year, the Jaguars had a 25-8 campaign that saw them fall one win shy of qualifying for the state tournament.

Terianne Itzen paced Morris with 16 kills. Hunter Mundal added 27 digs.

The Tigers fell to the Dutchmen 3-1 on Thursday, Aug. 29.

The Tigers fell behind in the first set 25-17, but bounced back in set two to even the score with a 25-22 win. However, the Dutchmen took sets three and four by scores of 25-13 and 25-16.

The Tigers had a balanced attack at the net. Terianne Itzen and Sydney Engebretson both recorded eight kills, while Paige Schieler had seven and Lacee Maanum hit six.

Haley Erdal led the team with 12 assists and Chelsey Ehleringer added 10.

Itzen led the defense with 22 digs.

The Tigers defeated Minnewaska Tuesday, Sept. 3, allowing just 29 points in a three-game sweep.

Sydney Engebretson led the Tigers with nine kills and Paige Schieler and Chelsea Ehleringer combined to produce 25 set assists.

The Lakers’ Alison Hoeper had six kills and Taylor Amundson had 16 set assists.
