The Tiger wrestling team hosted an invitational Feb. 14 at the Morris Elementary Gym. Nine Morris Area/ Hancock/ Chokio-Alberta wrestlers placed in the top six.

Nine teams participated with the eventual state champion Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg taking first place with a score of 264.

Benson placed second (186.5), West Central Area took third (128.5), Fosston/Bagley finished fourth (127), and Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd was fifth (116).

Sixth place went to Willmar (103), the Tigers took seventh (102), Ortonville was eighth (73.5), and Crosby-Ironton was ninth (68.5).

Tiger Eric Goette took first place at 130 pounds with a 12-1 decision over Willmar's Adam Fagerstrom. In the semi-final match, Goette won by technical fall over Jesse Lundebrek of Benson.

Four Tigers finished in third place.

At 103 pounds, Tony Domnick won the third-place match by fall in 3:36 over Alex Anderson of West Central Area. In his semi-final match, Domnick lost by fall to Morgan Staton of Benson in 3:14.

Josh Nelson won the third-place match at 135 pounds. He defeated Willmar's Coty Milhausen 7-4.

Tanner Berning took third place at 152 pounds, winning a 2-0 decision over Chris Rothstein of Crosby-Ironton. In the semi-final match, Berning dropped a 2-1 decision to Brady Wersinger of Benson.

Zach Gibson won a 1-0 overtime decision against Justin Golden of Benson to take third at 215 pounds. In the semi-final match, Gibson lost by fall in 3:02 to Cooper Wilson of Fosston/Bagley.

Jeff Knobloch placed fifth at 189 pounds with a pin in 1:28 over A.J. Marganelli of Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd.

Ryan Beyer finished in sixth place at 160 pounds. He lost the fifth-place match by fall in 4:20 to Jim Huston of Benson.

Eighth grader Herman Hill, wrestling unattached to any team at 112 pounds, finished in sixth place. He lost by fall in 4:17 to Isaac Cloos of Ortonville.

Also wrestling for the Tigers were Jordan Thooft at 112 pounds, John Zierke at 119 pounds, Wade Ehlers at 171 pounds, and James Newhouse at 285 pounds.
