Tigers' positive attitude leads to improvement this season
Following a rough start, the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta volleyball team finished strong, winning 12 of the Tigers' last 15 matches. Overall, the Tigers finished 16-9, including a nine-game winning streak.
"That winning streak helped a young team gain confidence," said coach Caleb Greene.
Watching the girls improve throughout the season was a highlight of Greene's fifth year as head coach.
The Tigers will lose four players to graduation, including MicKenley Nagel, Sadie Fischer, Mikaela Henrichs, and Katie Holzheimer, as well as team managers Xochil Mendez and DaVonte Robertson. Henrichs ends her career with over 800 digs and moves into second place in the all-time records.
"They are going to be missed," said Greene. "They have a tremendous work ethic."
All six were positive influences on the rest of Greene's young team.
Winners of team awards in volleyball are Offensive MVP - Sydney Engebretson, Tiger Award - Nicole Strobel, Defensive MVP - Mikaela Henrichs, and Hustle Award - Katie Holzheimer.
Greene has been very pleased with the Tigers' attitude as a whole from the C-squad and up.
"We've got a lot of experience coming back," said Greene. "I'll be looking for some one to take a leadership role next season."
