Tigers run volleyball record to 8-1

The Morris Area volleyball team dropped its first match of the year, but a second win over Cinton-Graceville-Beardsley in two days on Monday and a victory over Yellow Medicine East on Thursday have the Tigers sitting at 8-1 overall this season.

The Tigers opened the season 3-0, dropping just one game in victories over West Central Conference opponents Paynesville, Montevideo and Minnewaska Area.

The Tigers lost to Sauk Centre in the best-two-of-three University of Minnesota, Morris Invitational Tournament last weekend. Despite the loss, the Tigers defeated Breck, Laq qui Parle Valley and CGB, all in two games, to finish 3-1 in the tournament.

The Tigers took out CGB in the teams' regular-season meeting in Morris, 25-19, 25-22, 25-13 on Monday.

On Thursday, Erin Schieler had 15 kills and six blocks in a 23-25, 28-26, 31-29, 25-11 win over YME.

Shieler had 11 kills against CGB, Jenna Nelson had 7 and Mary Rentz had 5. MacKenzie Weatherly had 16 assists and Dani Schultz had 14, and Brooke Anderson had 32 digs.

Nelson had 11 kills and two ace serves to lead the Tigers.

Weatherly had 11 assists and Schultz had 10, while Nelson collected 21 digs and Nelson had 11.

Sauk Centre dishes out first loss

The Tigers slumped early, dropping the first game 25-10 to the Mainstreeters. Morris Area rebounded to take the second game 25-23 but lost the deciding game 15-11.

Nelson had five kills to lead the Tigers, and Carrie Roske and Schieler both had four kills. Anderson had 30 digs.

Schieler had nine kills and the Tigers cruised over Lac qui Parle Valley 25-12, 25-14. Defense was the key, with Anderson digging up 20 balls, followed by Schultz with 11, Nelson with 10 and Roske with nine.

Morris Area rips CGB

Schieler had seven kills and Nelson had a solid game, with five kills, three ace serves and eight digs in a 25-15, 25-14 win over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley.

Shadow Olson, Mary Rentz and Roske all had four kills, and Anderson recorded 14 digs and three service aces.
