Tigers suffer 1st softball loss
Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta suffered its first softball loss as Allie Trudel outdueled McKenzie Van Batavia to help Yellow Medicine East win 2-1 Tuesday in West Central Conference South action.
The Sting struck for two runs in the fourth. Angie Scheffler singled to lead off the inning and moved to second after Kendra Sander walked. Two outs followed with a pop up bunt to Jaimie Bergerson and a pop up to Holly Amundson. Scheffler then scored on an infield error and Sander came home on Nena McCall's single to right-center.
The Tigers got one back in the fifth when Tracy Meichsner singled to right to score Nicole Strobel, who reached on an error.
The Tigers had runners on second and third in the seventh, after Brooke Johnson led off with a long ball to center. Trudel notched a strikeout to end the game.
"It was a well played game," said coach Mary Holmberg. "YME had a few errors, but it did not hurt them.
Trudel finished with four strikeouts and gave up five hits and one walk. Van Batavia gave up just three hits and struck out five, but also walked five.
"We never really had a rally going," added Holmberg. "YME took advantage of our errors and we didn't take advantage of theirs."
