Tigers suffer loss to Lakers
Morris Area split West Central Conference South volleyball matches this week to fall behind Benson in the standings. The Tigers are 7-1 in the conference, while the Braves are undefeated at 7-0.
The Tigers take a 12-2 overall record into the Hancock Invitational this weekend. Next week, the Tigers will travel to Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Monday and Benson on Tuesday. The Jaguars lead the Central Minnesota Conference and are 16-2 overall. The Braves are 15-2 overall.
On Thursday, the Tigers return to the home court to take on the Thunder Hawks. When the two teams met Sept. 8, the Tigers defeated Montevideo in three.
Morris Area 1
The Tigers suffered their first conference loss of the season in a rematch with Minnewaska Area Tuesday. When the two teams opened the season, the Tigers won in three. This time around, the Lakers only gave up one set.
Erin Schieler had 11 kills and Jenna Nelson had 10 to pace the Tigers at Minnewaska. Nelson also served five aces. Mary Rentz recorded seven kills. Brooke Anderson recorded 26 digs, while Carrie Roske added 21 and Dani Schultz had 20.
For the Lakers, Allie Ostrander delivered 17 kills, 43 assists and three ace blocks and Chelsea Geiser added 19 kills. Abby Kreitlow led with 42 digs.
Morris Area 3
The Tigers stayed in second place in the conference by topping Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in a three-game sweep Thursday at home.
Setters Mackenzie Weatherly and Dani Schultz spread the ball around with seven Tigers getting at least one kill, led by Shadow Olson with five. Schieler had four kills and four ace blocks. Anderson led the team with 17 digs.
Katie Knisley led the Falcons with eight kills.
