Tigers suffer two losses to end softball season
Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta was eliminated from the Section 3AA softball tournament with a 5-2 loss to New Ulm in the quarterfinals and an 11-1 loss to Pipestone in the loser's bracket Saturday in Marshall.
The Tigers had the No. 1 seed in the North half of Section 3AA. Their season ends with 20 wins and only four losses.
In game one, New Ulm scored twice in the top of the fourth and three times in the sixth to take a 5-1 advantage.
MacKenzie Weatherly had two hits for the Tigers, including a home run in the second inning.
The Tigers added one run in the bottom of the sixth.
Weatherly suffered the loss, despite only allowing five hits.
In the loser's bracket, Pipestone added eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to go up 11-0. The Tigers managed only one run in the bottom of the sixth to invoke the 10-run rule.
Dani Schultz led the Tigers with two hits.
Weatherly walked two and struck out five in the loss.
