Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta placed fifth at the 10th Annual Stacy Polzin Volleyball Tournament Saturday, Sept. 10 at the University of Minnesota, Morris. After hosting Yellow Medicine East Tuesday, the Tigers take a break until returning to action next Tuesday when they host the undefeated Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Falcons.
The Tigers defeated Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 2-1 and Wilmot 2-0, but lost to Sauk Centre and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 2-0 in pool play. In the playoffs, the Tigers took fifth with a 2-0 win over Minnewaska.
Sauk Centre won the tourney for the third straight year.
The Tigers dropped a close 3-1 match to the Sting Tuesday. The Tigers forced a fourth set with a 25-20 win in the third. Despite leading for much of the fourth, the Sting came out on top to hand the Tigers their third straight loss in the West Central Conference South.
Terianne Itzen was the leading hitter for the Tigers with 19 kills.
Mikaela Henrichs was spot-on serving five aces in 22 attempts without an error.
Kylie Jans supplied 12 putaways for the Sting. Courtney Hinz was flawless on 93 sets, 27 of them set-ups leading to a kill.
