Tigers top YME, Holmberg reaches 500

Lauren Reimers gets some gusto on this hit against YME last Friday in Chokio. Reimers had two hits in the 12-9 win for the Tigers.

Morris/Chokio-Alberta head coach Mary Holmberg notched her 500th career victory on Friday in the Tigers’ 12-9 West Central Conference win over Yellow Medicine East.

Holmberg, who is in her 34th season, is only the sixth Minnesota coach to reach the 500-win milestone.

The Tigers took a four-run lead in the fourth, but the Sting responded with a five-run fifth to take the lead.

MA/C-A rebounded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth, enough to withstand YME’s rally in the seventh.

MA/C-A’s Nicole Strobel was 3-for-4 and drove in three runs and Becca Holland also was 3-for-4 with a triple.

Lauren Reimers, Abbie Olson and Brianna Abril all had two hits.
