Tigers win baseball opener with 14-run first inning

Morris Area plated 14 runs in the opening frame en route to defeating Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 19-7 in the Tigers' baseball opener Tuesday.

Tyler Hansen, Ryan Beyer, Mitch Carbert, and Eric Riley had two hits apiece in the first inning. The Tigers sent up 19 batters to the plate in the first and took advantage of 11 hits and six walks issued by A-C-GC to take a commanding lead.

The Falcons got half of those runs back in the second when 11 batters visited the plate to produce seven runs on four hits and two Morris errors.

Beyer, Carbert, and Riley finished with three hits, while Jordan Fletcher capped the scoring for Morris with a two-run single in the fourth.

Matt Lembcke picked up his first win as a Tiger, going the first three innings. Eric Riley finished on the mound.

Mitch Tauer knocked in two runs while Matthew Lee and James Nelson had two hits apiece for A-C-GC.
